Explore modern-day challenges through creative writing inspired by the Plague Crystals exhibition.
Dive into a profound exploration of contemporary challenges through the art of writing in the 'What Plagues Us?' workshop, presented by Koffler Arts. This unique online event draws its inspiration from Natalia Romik's compelling exhibition, 'Plague Crystals,' a series of thought-provoking sculptures crafted from repurposed crystal vessels, each containing objects that symbolize the various 'plagues' of our modern era.
Natalia Romik's 'Plague Crystals' serves as a potent backdrop, inviting participants to engage deeply with themes of pandemics, profound societal shifts, and pressing environmental crises that shape our world today. The exhibition itself is a testament to the power of art to reflect and challenge our perceptions, creating a rich ground for personal and collective introspection. Attendees are encouraged to learn more about this captivating exhibition, as understanding its context will only deepen the workshop experience.
Led by Josh Heuman, the Head of Artistic Engagement at Koffler Arts, this workshop is designed as a brave and inclusive space for creative expression. Josh brings a wealth of experience in facilitating engaging and meaningful artistic encounters, guiding participants through a structured yet flexible program. Whether you are a seasoned writer or new to the craft, this workshop welcomes all who wish to harness the transformative power of words.
During the 1 hour and 30-minute session, participants will be guided through three distinct writing prompts. These prompts are carefully crafted to ignite imagination and encourage authentic responses, prompting reflection on individual experiences and perceptions of the modern-day challenges that resonate most with them. You'll have the opportunity to craft either prose or poetry, allowing for diverse forms of expression.
A central component of the workshop is the opportunity for participants to share their 'first drafts' in a supportive group setting. This sharing segment is invaluable, offering a chance to receive constructive and impactful feedback from fellow participants. The focus of the feedback will be on what aspects of the writing resonate most profoundly with others, fostering a sense of community and shared understanding. This interactive approach ensures that each voice is heard and valued, contributing to a vibrant and dynamic learning environment.
This workshop is more than just a writing exercise; it's an invitation to connect with your inner self and your community, fostering creativity rooted in introspection and collective dialogue. It's a chance to articulate, process, and perhaps even find new perspectives on the issues that 'plague' us, using writing as a tool for personal growth and social commentary. Join us for an enriching experience that promises to inspire, challenge, and connect.
